It’s important that we care not only for our family but also for our neighbors, especially seniors and persons with physical or medical disabilities. Community resources are available throughout Lake County that can assist with you and your family’s unique needs.

Even though you or your loved one may have physical limitations, you can still protect and prepare for a disaster.

Personal Support Network

Seniors and disabled persons should have a personal support network that will check in on you in an emergency to ensure your wellness and to give assistance if needed. This network can be made up of friends, neighbors, relatives, roommates, personal attendants, or co-workers.

These emergency planning steps will help to ensure your safety and security

  • Determine whom within your support network will immediately check on you after a disaster and, if needed, offer assistance.
  • Exchange important keys.
  • Show them where you keep emergency supplies.
  • Share copies of relevant emergency documents, health information and evacuation plans.
  • Agree on and practice methods for contacting each other in an emergency. Do not count on the telephones working.
